Mexico to Consult on US Tariffs Amid Trade Tensions

The Secretary of Economy of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard, announced that the country will start consultations with various industries due to the imposition of tariffs by the United States. Mexico will use all available tools to take measures that benefit the country without acting hastily.

Ebrard stated that the measures to be implemented will aim to protect Mexican companies and seek to review the tariffs imposed on steel and aluminum. He emphasized that the decisions made will be framed in the context of possible actions that President Donald Trump may announce on April 2, related to new tariffs that will affect several countries.

The Secretary of Economy highlighted the uniqueness of the economic integration between Mexico and the United States, which he considers exceptional compared to other nations such as Canada or the European Union. In response to Trump's comments on international trade, Ebrard pointed out that the country will act with determination and calm in the face of U.S. tariff impositions.

In response to the recent trade measures by the United States, which include a 25% tariff on imports of steel and aluminum from Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard described these decisions as harmful. However, he reaffirmed the stance of acting with a cool head and firmness to face this adverse scenario and protect the interests of the Mexican economy.

The Mexican government, under the direction of President Claudia Sheinbaum, has chosen a strategy of firmness to confront the imposition of tariffs by the United States. Ebrard noted that, given the high economic integration between Mexico and its northern neighbor, the imposed tariffs will have a significant impact on various industries, which is why efforts will be made to mitigate these consequences through a detailed analysis with all parties involved.
