The senator from the National Action Party, Ricardo Anaya, revealed to the media that the United States imposed a 25% tariff on more than half of Mexico's global exports, despite the government continuing to hide this information. Anaya reported that 51% of Mexican exports to the United States are paying this tariff, while it was only suspended for the products covered by the Trade Agreement between Mexico, the United States, and Canada (T-MEC).
In a video shared on his social media, the senator accused the government of lying and deceiving the population. Anaya stated that the information provided in the Zócalo about the alleged suspension of tariffs is incorrect. In contrast to the statements of the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, about success in negotiations with the United States, Anaya affirmed that the 25% tariffs remain on more than half of the country's exports to its northern neighbor.
"You will remember that there was a threat to impose 25% tariffs, the tariff was imposed, and then they deceived the people by saying they had managed to have it suspended. Well, that has turned out to be a complete lie," Anaya expressed. He also pointed out that the suspension of tariffs only applies to the products covered in the T-MEC, so the celebration in the Zócalo was, according to the senator, a lie.
