Telcel and Telmex users reported various failures in the services of both companies, including interruptions in internet service, problems with landline phone connections, difficulties accessing the official website, and failures in email service. Most of the reports were concentrated in cities such as Monterrey, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Mérida, and Tijuana, indicating that the incidents affected key metropolitan areas across the country.
The inconvenience for Telcel users began around 5:06 PM and included a complete lack of signal, difficulties with mobile phone functionality, and what they described as a "total blackout," which involved the loss of connectivity for voice and mobile data. Given the inability to use the services normally, several consumers turned to social media, especially one particular platform, to confirm if the situation was widespread or limited to their devices.
The online conversation expanded due to the large number of posts and comments reporting similar failures in various regions of the country. This situation of uncertainty has caused discomfort among users who depend on these services to carry out their daily activities, remote work, and personal communication.
Throughout the afternoon on Friday, reports of failures in Telcel and Telmex services increased, being recorded through the DownDetector platform, which specializes in monitoring interruptions in applications, websites, and telecommunications systems. In the case of Telmex, the first reports were presented around 5:00 PM, reaching their peak around 5:30 PM, with at least 193 complaints registered on the platform.
