The government will implement a socioeconomic study to define the income of the homes in the "Housing Program for Wellbeing", which includes the construction of more than one million new homes, improvements, and expansions. This program is aimed at low-income individuals who earn less than two minimum wages. 600,000 homes will be distributed through Infonavit and 500,000 through the National Housing Commission.
To carry out this program, land owned by the Federal Government has been donated. In response to reports of scams where money is requested in exchange for a false enrollment in the program, the Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development, Edna Vega, urged the population not to fall for these practices. The Secretariat of Wellbeing will be responsible for conducting the census and defining the beneficiaries.
Edna Vega specified in an exclusive interview with Publimetro that there will be no lists, intermediaries, or payments to be included in the program. Beneficiaries will be identified through a house-to-house census, prioritizing those in poverty or marginalization situations in areas near the construction lands.
The "Housing Program for Wellbeing" seeks to counteract gentrification by incorporating the displaced population in obtaining affordable housing. The program's focus is national, with specific goals for different regions of the country, especially those with historically low social housing construction.
In addition to housing construction, the program includes the acquisition of rental homes within residential complexes. In Los Cabos, the creation of more than 300 rental homes is planned, with 20% of these designated for young individuals living alone or with a roommate. Details on the payment process are still being defined.
