The General Directorate of Professions (DGP) has simplified the application process for the professional license, allowing interested individuals to apply for their professional license online through the designated website. With the unique population registration key (CURP), the advanced electronic signature from SAT, and an online payment method, it is no longer necessary to carry out in-person procedures.
Physical licenses remain valid, but the issuance of digital professional licenses is being carried out as part of the national digitalization strategy and the Development Plan of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The DGP, attached to the Ministry of Public Education and headed by Mario Delgado Carrillo, is in charge of this process. Currently, this new procedure is available for graduates of technical studies, bachelor's, and postgraduate degrees from schools across the country.
Interested parties will receive their professional license in digital format via email, following the same process as other official documents such as birth certificates, driver's licenses, and circulation cards. Those who wish to obtain the digital version of their license may request it online in case of loss or preference. The DGP expects to register one million professional titles and issue more than 800,000 digital professional licenses nationwide by the year 2025.
José Omar Sánchez Molina, head of the DGP, reported that since 2018, more than 4 million digital professional licenses have been issued, mostly in areas such as Law, Accounting, Administration, as well as careers related to technology and health sciences. Additionally, new electronic services such as the non-sanction certificate and the request for a degree certificate will be introduced virtually.
The digitalization of procedures also includes the issuance of title authorizations in process, ensuring legal certainty to professionals who have completed their studies and are in the process of obtaining their degree. The DGP will establish a link with universities to expedite the issuance of the degree certificate, verifying the necessary credits for it. The processes for updating curriculum plans and verification of official study validity recognition will be completed within a maximum of 15 days, significantly reducing waiting times that previously lasted up to 6 months.
