The price of the US dollar remained stable and closed on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 19.65 pesos in interbank operations, one cent less than the previous day, according to the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).
In light of statements by US President Donald Trump regarding a potential renegotiation of the USMCA, the exchange rate reached a maximum of 19.78 pesos and a minimum of 19.62 pesos per dollar. In the windows of banks and exchange houses, the free dollar fluctuated between 20.87 pesos at its highest and 19.72 pesos at its lowest per greenback.
Regarding dollar prices, Bank of America sold it for 20.87 pesos, Monex for 20.67 pesos, Afirme for 20.30 pesos, and Bx+ for 20.29 pesos. On the other hand, Grupo Financiero Multiva offered it for 19.72 pesos, BBVA for 19.95 pesos, Banorte for 20.00 pesos, and Banamex for 20.16 pesos.
Gabriela Siller Pagaza, director of Economic Analysis at Grupo Financiero BASE, explained that although the exchange rate remained stable, the price of the dollar was affected by Trump's statements about the renegotiation of the USMCA instead of a review.
"This is relevant because a review of the USMCA is scheduled for July 2026, according to the sunset clause, and advancing the review is not a bad idea, as it would reduce uncertainty," Siller commented. She also added that "However, Trump speaks of a renegotiation and not a review, which would imply more time and the need for approval from the congresses of the three countries that make up the USMCA."
