Investment Opportunities in Mexico Amid Uncertainty

Julio Escandón, general director of Banco Base, during the 88th Banking Convention, mentioned that companies that prepare now will have advantages in the future. Escandón expressed optimism regarding the renegotiation of the USMCA and the arrival of medium-term investment flows.

The executive highlighted the interest of foreign investments in Mexico, emphasizing the importance of clarity in the economic landscape. He pointed out infrastructure debt as an urgent attention factor to avoid opportunity costs in future investments.

On the other hand, uncertainty has slowed the placement of credits, as companies prefer to wait for clear rules to expand. Escandón estimated a possible improvement in this situation towards the second half of the year.

Banco Base has scheduled an investment of two billion pesos for the next five years with the aim of improving its product offering, especially in international transfers and specialized financing for global businesses.

Escandón emphasized the importance of promoting the business environment at an international level to reduce uncertainty and attract foreign investments. Additionally, he highlighted the need to continue improving the country's infrastructure in energy, water, and roads.

The general director advocated for electronic banking, personalized advice, and process simplification through strategic alliances. He stressed the importance of preparing for the post-volatility stage generated by US policies, urging the public and private sectors to unite to attract investments and maintain the country's competitiveness.

Escandón warned that companies withdrawing their investments from Mexico due to the current situation will make a serious mistake and lose competitiveness in the future. He highlighted the importance of long-term stability to attract lasting investments and strengthen commercial integration with the United States.
