Boosting Economic Growth in Mexico

The director of BanCoppel highlights the commitment to financing SMEs to foster the country's economic growth, in collaboration with the government and development banks.

The General Director of BanCoppel, Carlos López-Moctezuma, emphasized the importance of uniting entrepreneurs and the government to boost economic growth. He pointed out the obligation of banks to guarantee healthy financed growth, especially for SMEs. He highlighted the commitment of the banking institution in this regard and the importance of the Mexico Plan, designed to provide greater financing to companies and improve the country's development.

Data from the CNBV indicates that BanCoppel's business credit grew by 39% last year, reaching 38,371 million pesos. Despite the uncertainty that has affected Mexico, López-Moctezuma expressed good expectations for the country and the contribution that BanCoppel can make to achieve its goals as a bank.

The director of BanCoppel emphasized the relevance of consumption and the fundamental role it plays in economic growth. He pointed out the importance of supporting the mortgage sector and housing construction to provide dignified homes to Mexicans. López-Moctezuma stressed the importance of supporting SMEs to strengthen the country, recognizing the challenges they face in terms of financing.

In the context of the 88th Banking Convention, López-Moctezuma underscored the need for joint work between the government and banks to increase financing directed at SMEs. He suggested that development banking could play a more active role in this task to benefit micro-entrepreneurs. Furthermore, he dismissed the idea that the external impact on the Mexican economy in 2021 would be comparable to the shock experienced in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
