State Audit Reports 12 Billion Pesos in Irregularities

The State Audit Office (ASE) delivered the public account reports for 2024 to the local Congress, reporting 14,820 observations across all public entities in the state. This represents a blow to the treasury to the tune of 12,272 million pesos in 2024. The head of the ASE, Alejandro Reynoso Gil—a staunch ally of the PAN and the opposition—warned that the state government, through mobility and Water and Drainage projects, is where the largest monetary amount of observations are concentrated. "The observations are financial, economic, and regulatory, which we evaluate from all angles," said the official. Regarding the audits requested by the local Congress on the new Metrorrey lines for "alleged irregularities," Reynoso Gil detailed that they are not part of this report, but they remain ongoing and are seeking support from the UANL. They encompass 142 public entities—municipalities, organisms, and the executive—and the reports represent 342 audits. At the Palace of Cantera, they are awaiting developments and understand that these blows will also serve as pressure for the 2026 Budget. "The last one we received was about the metro columns in the drainage system, which is requesting a deep-dive investigation from us, and we are starting because it is a whole process to be able to legally launch this special audit," he commented. ASE staff delivered up to 46 boxes of documents to the Officialía de Partes of the local Congress. "In the executive branch, the observations are obviously in mobility due to all the issues with the works being carried out; the same central government and Water and Drainage have the highest number according to the budgets they manage. Some other mayors maintain a complex political relationship with most political factions and also have tension in their cabinets due to blows from the opposition, such as that of Santa Catarina, Jesús Nava.
