Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego has called on the government to wait until January to receive a detailed explanation for the tax debt of 31 billion pesos. Salinas Pliego stated on social media X that the most prudent and responsible step for him and the government is to wait until January, when the SAT tax authority provides a written justification for the amount and a detailed, transparent breakdown of the calculations. "Only based on clear, legal, and verifiable information will it be possible to reach a fair solution, close this matter institutionally, and strengthen the rule of law that the country needs," he added. In turn, SAT head Antonio MartÃnez Dagnino promised to proceed with the collection. "If there is an intention to cover the debt, taxpayers can request before the SAT, depending on the order and payment scheme, reductions of up to 39% in accordance with the law and court rulings," he expressed. This case dates back to decisions made by the tax authority between 2013 and 2018, when it was resolved that various companies had improperly applied tax losses to pay the Income Tax for the 2008-2013 fiscal years. After the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) dismissed in November the challenges to the tax collection from Ricardo Salinas Pliego's companies, the SAT announced that this January it will proceed to notify a collection for 51 billion pesos. Grupo Salinas on the court setback: "The ministers voted in line with the National Palace."
