President Claudia Sheinbaum affirmed that in 2026 her government will accelerate the strategic projects initiated this year and will present a program of greater public investment, with the aim of boosting the economy, strengthening infrastructure, and consolidating social programs. During her morning press conference, the head of state noted that in 2025, key projects began in the areas of trains, roads, water, and housing, particularly for the population with fewer resources, and she emphasized that next year these works “have to advance even more.” She announced that at the beginning of 2026, a public and mixed investment scheme will be presented, which she described as novel and different from the old Public-Private Partnerships, with examples in roads and airports such as those in Puerto Escondido and Tepic. Sheinbaum explained that this model will also be applied in sectors such as electricity, Pemex, and other infrastructure works, and she maintained that it will allow for an increase in investment and employment in the country, “guaranteeing the well-being of the people.” She added that the well-being poles are already underway and must be consolidated through various mechanisms. The president indicated that 2026 will be key due to the closing of the trade treaty review process, which, she said, will strengthen certainty for foreign investment and exports. In the social sphere, she highlighted the consolidation of well-being programs, including support for women aged 60 to 64, middle school students, and new scholarship schemes for elementary and young students. She also anticipated that the security cabinet will dedicate special attention to combating extortion and that the consolidation of the universal health system will continue, with the strengthening of IMSS-Bienestar, new works, and the credentialing of the system, as well as the expansion of public education with more high schools, universities, and support for students.
