After more than 20 years of controversies, and despite disagreements, the companies of Grupo Salinas have concluded their tax litigations with the government of Mexico. This concludes the main confrontation between the ruling party and a central figure in the business world. Although the SAT determined a debt of 51 billion pesos for Grupo Salinas, the corporation will only pay 32 billion pesos to the treasury. The reduction amounts to 19 billion pesos, that is, about 37% less than the amount originally indicated by the tax authority. "In the last 20 years, our companies have paid more than 300 billion pesos in tax obligations," it was expressed. "We do this because it is time to turn the page, to end the persecution against us and to focus on what matters: continue creating value for Mexico, our millions of customers, and the more than 200,000 families that depend on our business group," it was expressed. The tax authority specified that yesterday a first deposit of 10.4 billion pesos was made to the Federal Treasury and the rest will be covered in 18 installments. "No one can deny that we comply with Mexico," the company pointed out. "From now on, we owe nothing," the conglomerate stated in a statement. Grupo Salinas reached an agreement with the Government to settle its debt with the SAT.
