This proposal came during a phone call with Brazilian President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva, who suggested an energy collaboration. The main focus of this potential alliance is deepwater oil, an area where Petrobras has become an international leader. Sheinbaum detailed that the Brazilian company has significant experience in deepwater extraction. She announced that the head of Petrobras will visit Mexico in April to meet with the Pemex director, the Secretary of Energy, and with her to review the proposal in detail. However, no final decision has been made yet. In addition to oil, Sheinbaum highlighted Mexico's interest in Brazil's work on ethanol production from sugarcane and advancements in biomass research, including with agave, aiming to foster ties between experts from both countries.
