CFE Unveils New Smart Meters with Bluetooth Technology

Mexico's CFE is developing innovative meters with Bluetooth connectivity, enabling remote consumption tracking, outage information, and management via smart assistants.

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is developing new electricity meters with Bluetooth functionality that can be integrated with your devices. During the presentation of technological innovations to strengthen the reliability of the electrical service, CFE, led by Emilia Ceja, explained that the objective of the new meters is for users to 'connect to them via a Smart Home Virtual Assistant (such as Amazon's Alexa or Google Assistant)'. If you have such an assistant at home, you will be able to manage information related to your energy consumption. With the new meters, you will no longer have to wait until the next day if your power is cut. 'It is self-sustaining, with a meter that integrates into the home ecosystem, it will have the function of being an access point for up to 500 meters,' explained IrĂ¡n Galero Trejo, head of the Advanced Measurement Laboratory of the North Valley Mexico Distribution Division. Are the little devils in the electricity meters a thing of the past? Will you be able to check from your cell phone how much energy you use at home?
