The Mexican federal government has increased the estimated cost of the Mexico-Querétaro train project. The new cost will be 265 billion 338 million pesos, representing a 19% increase from the previous estimate of 222 billion 852 million pesos. The initial construction budget was projected at 166 billion 874 million pesos, meaning this category of expenses has increased by 23.9%. This indicates that the project's total cost has now overrun by 253%, more than tripling the original budget. The train will feature six stations, three in Querétaro state, and is expected to have an annual ridership of 6.5 million passengers. It will connect Mexico City with Querétaro in an average time of one hour and 50 minutes, with diesel-electric trains reaching speeds of up to 200 km/h. Construction began on April 27, 2025, and is scheduled for completion by September 30, 2027. Currently, 14,346 employees are working on 14 fronts along the 232-kilometer double-track route.
