Jalisco Governor's Meeting on Agri-Food Sanitary Security

Governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus, met with Francisco Javier Calderón, head of the National Service of Health, Safety and Food Quality (Senasica), and with Lalo Ron Ramos, head of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader), to review the sanitary situation in the state's agri-food sector. During the meeting, the current conditions of the agricultural sector in the state were discussed, as well as the actions implemented to guarantee the quality of products for consumption and export. "We work to guarantee the quality of what Jalisco consumes or exports in the agri-food issue," the governor shared. Follow-up was given to the actions to prevent the proliferation of the agave weevil, as well as the borer worm. "We are focusing on prevention to avoid the proliferation of pests such as the 'weevil' in the agave sector, the borer worm, and strengthening the certification of avocado production." Measures applied against the borer worm in 2026 It is worth noting that in 2026, the Government of Jalisco, in coordination with federal authorities, maintains specific actions for the control of the borer worm: permanent monitoring in agricultural and livestock zones; installation of sanitary inspection points on transit routes; veterinary review and immediate attention to detected cases; application of sanitary fences in affected areas; implementation of biological control through the release of sterile flies. These measures are aimed at containing the spread of the pest in the state. In the same way, it has been revealed that the strengthening of certification processes, mainly in avocado production, is continuing, with the objective of meeting the required sanitary standards for its commercialization.
