Governor Samuel García inaugurated the expansion of the Export Lanes at the Colombia-Laredo customs, and it is expected that in six years this place will reach 18,000 crossings daily. With this expansion, the customs will become the most relevant cross-border logistics city between Mexico and the United States.
The expansion includes increasing from three to five lanes for cargo and tourism flow towards Texas and the United States, with a complete reconstruction of the hydraulic concrete road. García highlighted the importance of this region as a powerful economic cluster that facilitates connection with Texas, making the 9-kilometer customs a strategic point for trade.
The modernization of the customs also includes the expansion of crossing booths, the installation of a new Civil Force base, the construction of entry and exit arches, a comprehensive service module for citizens, a housing complex for employees, and the Government of Nuevo León's Master Road Plan.
The governor emphasized that the customs have been strengthened with more than a thousand police officers responsible for safeguarding the border and has been noted as the safest in Mexico, allowing for joint inspections that expedite export procedures. The modernization of the roads has significantly contributed to the increase in daily crossings, going from 3,200 to more than 6,500 currently.
The Highway 01 Norte or Monterrey-Colombia has been renewed and the La Gloria-Colombia Highway has been constructed, actions that have driven the growth of cross-border crossings. It is anticipated that with these improvements, crossings will triple in the coming years, reaching a projection of 18,000 daily crossings by 2030, consolidating the customs as the most important logistics city between Mexico and the United States.
