The price of white eggs in Mexico varies significantly across different regions of the country. In the Aprecio chain, Jardines branch in Tijuana, a package of 18 pieces is priced up to 66.90 pesos, while at La Comer, branches El Dorado and Insurgentes, located in Mexico City, it can be purchased for only 36 pesos, according to information from the federal consumer ombudsman, Iván Escalante.
During the town hall conference by President Claudia Sheinbaum, the head of Profeco reported that the price of eggs has remained stable in the country. According to monitoring conducted from October 14 to 18, the average price stood at 52.46 pesos per package of 18 white eggs. Additionally, he highlighted that La Comer offers one of the lowest prices, with its branch in Mexico City selling the product for 36 pesos.
On the other hand, higher prices were identified in the north of the country, specifically in Tijuana, where one branch sold the package for 66.90 pesos. In the southern region, in Cancun, another branch offered it for 61.95 pesos. The difference between the highest and lowest price for packages of 18 white eggs is 30.90 pesos, according to Profeco's monitoring.
Although the average price of white eggs was 53 pesos with 36 cents at the beginning of January 2023, it poses a challenge for many families. However, it has remained stable and even below that average.
Regarding the basic basket, the ombudsman reported that the price of the 24 products remains below one thousand 39 pesos in total. The difference between the most expensive and the cheapest basket is 250 pesos, with the extreme prices found in the same city, Chihuahua. The highest price was recorded at S-Mart, one thousand 02 pesos with 48 cents, while in Bodega Aurrera, Airport branch, the lowest price was 725 pesos with 20 cents.
