New Price Agreement for Basic Goods in Mexico

The president and several producing companies have signed the Anti-Inflation and Price Hike Package (PACIC) 2024-2025, a government program implemented during the term of Andrés Manuel López Obrador to address high inflation and rising prices. It has been announced that the 24 products in the basic basket will have a fixed total price of 910 pesos, which implies a reduction of 129 pesos compared to the previous agreement of 1,039 pesos.

Claudia Sheinbaum, from her social media account, expressed her gratitude for the collaboration of companies in support of the popular economy. This agreement aims to contain the cost of the products that make up the basic basket and mitigate the effects of rising prices. This measure is expected to have a positive impact on the economy of Mexican consumers.

The PACIC program began in May 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been renewed three times. According to INEGI data, inflation in Mexico has experienced an increase of 4.76% annually in October, driven mainly by the prices of fruits and vegetables. The signing of this agreement by the president of Mexico seeks to maintain control over the prices of the basic basket and protect citizens' wallets in light of the current economic situation.
