The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, anticipated that the 2025 Economic Package will focus on reducing the fiscal deficit and strengthening Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and welfare programs through an increase in republican austerity to boost the country in the coming year. During the 'Morning Briefing of the People,' the president stated that the head of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), Rogelio Ramírez de la O, will present the 2025 Economic Package to the Chamber of Deputies in an effort to also boost the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and strengthen the national economy.
In Claudia Sheinbaum's words: 'Today the Economic Package is presented, it will be presented by Secretary Rogelio Ramírez de la O, it is a very solid package, there are important changes in the way the budget is distributed, the deficit is reduced, and this also implies a greater effort from the entire government of republican austerity. This does not affect the operation of the country nor the government, but some adjustments are obviously guaranteed for welfare programs, public investments, and a direction is made (...) the CFE has good finances, and by strengthening Pemex we will strengthen the entire economy of the country.'
The president assured that the Mexican economy is in a solid position and expressed confidence that the country will move forward next year. The 2025 Economic Package is expected to include fiscal measures aimed at preventing tax waivers and tax evasion, with a total net spending of around 10 trillion pesos, compared to the 9 trillion approved for 2024. A fiscal miscellaneous and an initiative to modify Pemex's tax regime are also anticipated.
The 2025 Economic Package contains the General Criteria for Economic Policy, the initiative for the Income Law of the Federation, and the draft of the Federation's Expenditure Budget, which must be discussed and approved in the Chamber of Deputies.
