The National Housing Fund Institute for Workers (Infonavit) has announced the implementation of a new program in which it will 'freeze' the loans of some people, due to unpayable debts generated by the Minimum Wage Times (VSM) scheme. A review of 4 million credits granted before 2013 is planned.
Octavio Romero, head of Infonavit, detailed that the 'freezing' of the credits will be done automatically for 500,000 beneficiaries, while in other cases discounts on balances may be implemented.
People who wish to verify if their Infonavit credit has been frozen can do so through the Infonavit website, logging in with their Social Security Number (NSS). A socioeconomic study will be conducted to determine payment capacity, and a monthly payment will be set that does not exceed 30% of income, with a repayment period of up to 30 years.
Infonavit is also considering a rental housing program with an option to purchase for properties owned by the Institute, with an accessible leasing scheme. On the website, beneficiaries can check the status of their credit and the benefits they can access.
If no information is found online, individuals can visit the Infonavit Information Service Centers to learn about the status of their debt and available benefits.
For the current six-year term, Infonavit, under Claudia Sheinbaum's administration, plans to build 500,000 new homes with subsidized financing at an interest rate of 0%.
