The Government of Nuevo León, through the State Institute for Women (IEM), has taken a significant step by promoting the integration of an intersectional gender perspective in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative aims to create more inclusive technologies, free of biases and with the potential to reduce gender inequalities.
In this context, the Feminist AI Forum was held, led by Miriam Hinojosa Dieck, Executive President of the IEM. This event is part of Operation IeminAI, a strategy that fosters AI models from a feminist perspective, combining research, capacity building, and innovation.
One of the key points addressed during the forum was a keynote lecture on systemic inequality in AI, presented by Paola Ricaurte and Mariel Zasso. Additionally, a certification in AI based on CONOCER standards was introduced by Guillermina Alvarado, and a roundtable discussion on Intersectionality in AI, where experts analyzed biases, economic gaps, and gender violence in technology.
Furthermore, a technological dynamic led by DIVERSA was conducted to design a feminist AI, and a UNDP workshop to map feminist collectives and promote community equality. More than 250 people, mostly women, gathered at this event, highlighting the interest in building technologies that promote substantive equality.
The Executive President of the IEM, Miriam Hinojosa, stated: "We want more girls to see engineering as a real alternative to close the wage gap and combat structural inequalities. Nuevo León thus reaffirms its commitment to inclusive technology with a gender perspective."
