UNAM Launches Sustainable Future Initiative

The UNAM, in collaboration with the Lobbying Social Foundation, has introduced the 'Sustainable and Sustainable Triad: Vision 2045' contest to engage students in addressing global challenges. The initiative promotes awareness around health, gender equality, and climate action.

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Lobbying Social Foundation will join forces to raise awareness about the crucial role of students in building the future. This collaboration is structured in two phases throughout the year, complemented by a promotional campaign focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with an emphasis on health and well-being, gender equality, and climate action.

During the inauguration, rector Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas highlighted the importance of the Pact for the Future Agenda, stressing that 'our decisions will define the world in which those who come after us and millions of other species will live.' He emphasized that understanding current issues is not enough; it is crucial to act with momentum, creativity, and determination. Addressing the young attendees, he added that 'this competition represents a journey of learning and renewal.'

The contest aims to create spaces for participation and provide tools that reinforce the sense of belonging and empowerment of young people. Lomelí stressed that the voice of the students is important, as their ideas can break inertia and open new paths.

Mariana Castro Álvarez, National Information Officer at the United Nations Information Center for Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic, pointed out that the contest is aligned with the 2030 Agenda, urging young people to imagine a better world and work for it 'with small and large steps.'

Rafael Estrada Cano, coach and General Lobbyist of the Lobbying Social Foundation, announced that the call for the photography, video, and essay contest will be launched on February 17. This competition aims not only to foster creativity but also to shape agents of change in the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Fernando Macedo, Secretary of Service and Community Attention, stated that the contest goes beyond being a competition; it is a call to action for a better world. He invited students to outline their roadmap towards a better future in the contest 'Sustainable and Sustainable Triad: Vision 2045.'
