Mexico seeks to stand out as a growing tourist power, with a 15.5% increase in the arrival of international tourists in 2024, according to President Claudia Sheinbaum. Despite attempts to stigmatize the country due to violence, Sheinbaum emphasized Mexico's global recognition as a renowned tourist and cultural destination.
Tourism Secretary, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, set the goal of positioning Mexico as the fifth most visited country in the world, prioritizing sustainability, inclusion, and the recognition of indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities in its tourism policy.
The tourism strategy is based on three key pillars: participatory governance, diversification of the tourist offer with community tourism areas, and the strengthening of Magical Towns, as well as the promotion of new destinations and experiences.
Internationally, Mexico bets on significant events like the Mexico - U.S. Tourism Tianguis, as part of the Mexico Plan, aiming to establish itself as the fifth most visited tourist destination in the world. Participation in international fairs and the promotion of Mexican culture, including gastronomic festivals and the VisitMexico.com platform, with "Frida guides you," are essential to this strategy.
With the implementation of these measures, Mexico aims to strengthen its global presence and promote tourism that contributes to economic development, inclusion, and sustainability, establishing itself as an attractive and competitive tourist destination.
