One of the Mexican legends that has inspired the new HBO Max series titled "Coyotl, hero and beast," is that of the nahual, a mythical figure from the country's folklore. Mexico is known for its numerous legends, from La Llorona to La Planchada, and now it delves into this television production set in the north of the country. The plot revolves around a town where two drug trafficking gangs are fighting for control of the territory.

In the series trailer, you can see how the protagonist seeks to avenge the death of a loved one at the hands of hitmen but ends up seriously injured. A local shaman awakens the nahual within him, leading him down a difficult path where he will risk even his soul to become the protector that the north needs.

Nahuales, in Mesoamerican mythology, were beings with special abilities who had a unique connection with nature and animals. According to researcher Natalie Gabayet, nahuales were considered as doubles of animals that lived in a person's blood, possessing superhuman abilities. This figure was feared in indigenous cultures and was attributed powers of protector and defender of their people.

The series "Coyotl, hero and beast" premieres on February 27 on the HBO Max platform and focuses on the current reality of Mexican society, specifically in areas affected by drug trafficking. The cast of the series is led by Alejandro Speitzer, accompanied by actors such as Paulina Gaitán, Horacio García Rojas, Ben Zeng and many others. Additionally, musician Eme Malafe performs the corrido of the series protagonist.
