WhatsApp users reported service failures when sending or receiving messages on the morning of Friday, February 28, while waiting for the service to be restored in the coming hours. The last time problems were reported on WhatsApp was in December, when Facebook and Instagram were also affected.
Since 9:00 AM, the Down Detector platform showed issues with message sending, server connection, and the application, both in the WhatsApp app and on WhatsApp Web, where unexpected session closures and difficulties in linking it again were recorded.
Users expressed their frustration about the failures, with comments like: "I hate to see WhatsApp go down when I am sending an incredibly important message." On social media, memes and jokes about the worldwide failure were shared, with some even confusing the problem with their internet connection, unnecessarily rebooting their modems.
In light of the service failure, alternative applications like Telegram were reminded for sending messages. Twitter users humorously commented that on payday Friday, it is more important that the SPEI or banking platforms for electronic transfers do not fail, remembering that all these applications belong to Meta.
In addition to WhatsApp, problems were also reported on Facebook, where it was not possible to access from the computer, and on Messenger, where users could neither send nor receive messages. Instagram also experienced failures, especially in Stories, where users could not respond to posts.
