At the recent 2025 Academy Awards ceremony, a very emotional section known as 'In Memoriam' took place, where tribute was paid to the members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who passed away in the last year. During this section, notable figures like Gene Hackman, found deceased alongside his wife Betsy Arakawa in February, and Mexican director Lourdes Portillo were remembered. However, actress Silvia Pinal was not included in this tribute, which caused discomfort for her daughter, actress Sylvia Pasquel.
Sylvia Pasquel expressed her discontent after the absence of her mother, Silvia Pinal, in the Oscar tribute. Considering Pinal's career in the Academy and her collaboration with prominent directors such as Luis Buñuel, Pasquel expected her name to be mentioned in the 'In Memoriam.' In an interview with Venga la Alegría, Pasquel shared her annoyance and recalled the importance of Silvia Pinal in the film industry.
The surprise for Sylvia Pasquel was even greater when she realized that Silvia Pinal had not been included in the tribute, despite the fact that she herself had recorded the segment anticipating such recognition. In light of this situation, Pasquel emphatically expressed her discontent regarding her mother's omission from the event.
Efigenia Ramos, Silvia Pinal's assistant, revealed in an interview with Ventaneando that the actress might not have been included in the tribute because her family had not paid the annual fee required to maintain membership in the Academy. Ramos mentioned that, although Silvia Pinal had not cast her vote for the Academy Awards for some time, the lack of payment of the annual fee could have been a determining factor in her exclusion from the tribute. Ivan Cochegrus, a close friend of Silvia Pinal, noted that the actress had stopped casting her vote before her passing, transferring the responsibility to Ignacio López Tarso, who was also not remembered at the Oscars after dying in 2023.
