The celebration of Good Friday began on April 18 throughout the national territory as part of the commemorations of Holy Week 2025. From the representation of the Passion of Christ in Iztapalapa to the Stations of the Cross in Acapulco, these are the snapshots left by this Christian tradition across the country.
In Iztapalapa, as every year, the mayoralty of Mexico City becomes the stage for a representation of the last week of Jesus Christ's life, his crucifixion and resurrection. The 182nd representation in Iztapalapa started at the Macroplaza of the Cuitláhuac Garden, with the staging of biblical passages. The Citizen Security Secretariat deployed an operation with more than eight thousand police officers to guarantee safety in downtown Iztapalapa and on the Hill of the Star.
In Acapulco, about 60 people participated in a Stations of the Cross on Papagayo beach starting from the anti-monument to La Esperanza. Priest Salvador Cisneros Preciado urged people to take to the streets despite fears of violence and insecurity in the area. The representation concluded at the Cristo Rey parish, located on Universidad Avenue, where tourists and bathers joined the group.
On the hill of Cubilete, more than 9,000 people made the ascent during the early hours of Good Friday. The Stations of the Cross towards the Sanctuary of Cristo Rey departed from the Expiatory Hermitage of Cubilete without incidents. The participation of entire families, pilgrims on foot, cyclists, and motorcyclists was notable. The hill of Cubilete, located in Guanajuato, is considered a key point for national religious tourism.
In Guerrero, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake surprised the residents of Ometepec during the Good Friday celebrations. According to the National Seismological Service, the tremor occurred 76 kilometers southwest of the municipality. So far, no damages have been reported, and it was not necessary to activate the seismic alert, as communicated by Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda on her Facebook page.
