Dharma Limón, originally from San Luis Potosí, was awarded the Young Innovator Award during the Japan Peace Summit 2025, held in Tokyo from April 10 to 13. The award was given in recognition of her work as a human rights activist and for her outstanding project Nueva FEM, part of the Niñas Poderosas initiative that promotes the empowerment of girls and adolescents in Latin America and the Caribbean.
With just six years of experience in activism, Dharma presented her project during the event, a "Digital and Community Seed" that highlights the issues faced by girls, teenagers, and young people, providing them with a space to express themselves, strengthen their empowerment, and develop leadership.
The tenth edition of the Japan Peace Summit received over a thousand applications from 80 countries and recognized only 60 projects from 20 nations. Dharma was the only representative from Mexico and one of two delegates from Latin America and the Caribbean to be distinguished at this event.
The Nueva FEM project is part of the Digital and Community Seeds program of Niñas Poderosas, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal number 5 of the 2030 Agenda, which seeks to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls.
Niñas Poderosas promotes feminist info-activism among adolescents through the use of digital tools and the creation of safe spaces for listening, sisterhood, and collective action. During her participation in the panel on youth and climate action with a gender focus, Dharma mentioned that the project contributed to her own personal growth.
Tejiendo Redes por la Infancia emphasized that the Digital and Community Seeds combine human rights approaches, gender perspective, and the use of official data to strengthen active and conscious digital citizenship from childhood. Dharma's presence at the international forum highlights the importance of supporting youth leadership with a community and feminist focus in spaces that promote inclusive narratives and social transformation from an early age.
