Massive Telcel Outage Causes Nationwide Frustration

On Tuesday, May 6, a nationwide outage of Telcel services occurred in Mexico, primarily affecting the largest cities in the country such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. Since 12:30 p.m., users reported issues with 4G, 5G, calls, and internet services, generating a wave of complaints on social media due to communication difficulties.

According to information provided by DownDetector, 55% of the complaints received were related to the lack of Telcel signal. The telecommunications company confirmed that data service problems began at 12:25 p.m. and managed to resolve the outages around 12:45 p.m.

Through the X platform, Telcel responded to users during the outage, informing them about the situation and working on providing solutions. The official Telcel Service account on X was responsible for addressing user issues, who expressed their frustration over the lack of connectivity on mobile devices.

Complaint reports concentrated on the lack of signal, affecting both mobile internet and phone calls. The Telcel outage caused many users to restart their phones multiple times, thinking the problem was with their devices, while the lack of service was the real cause of the connection difficulties. Complaints rapidly increased from 12:17 p.m., showing the massive impact of the failure on the telecommunications company's network.
