The Government of Mexico City recently presented updates regarding preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will take place in Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Among the announced improvements is the creation of a new trolleybus line that will connect Metro Universidad with Huipulco, as well as the implementation of Centrobús, a fleet of electric buses to traverse the Historic Center of CDMX.

Additionally, it was announced that during the World Cup, the FIFA Fan Festival will be set up in the Zócalo, where attendees will have the opportunity to watch matches on a giant screen, enjoy sports activities, hospitality areas, concerts, and an exhibition of the ball game.

Regarding the number of matches that Mexico will host, it was announced that there will be a total of 13, with five of them being played at Estadio Azteca. With 400 days until the start of the tournament, the Organizing Committee responsible for logistics in Mexico City was presented.

One of the most notable revelations was the possible official mascot of Mexico for the World Cup, presented as an axolotl wearing the green uniform of the Aztec national team and adorned with a headdress on its forehead. The leaked image of the mascot generated positive reactions among fans on social media, who praised the design with comments like "It's cool" or "It's lovely."

As part of the establishment of the CDMX Committee for the FIFA World Cup 2026, it was announced that three group stage matches, one round of 16 match, and one quarterfinal match will take place in the Old City Hall.
