The Mexican Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) reiterated its commitment to “guarantee that air operations in Mexico are carried out under conditions of safety, continuity, and user protection.” This update is part of a global review of Airbus A320 aircraft, ordered last Friday after analyzing data from an incident that occurred on October 30 on a JetBlue flight from Cancún to Newark, United States. During the flight, the aircraft suffered a sudden loss of altitude caused by an error in one of the computers that control the flight surfaces, which forced an emergency landing in Tampa, Florida, where 15 to 20 people suffered minor injuries. Airbus explained that the cause was exposure to intense solar storms, which altered essential parameters for the control of aircraft that had recently received a software update. As a precaution, the company ordered the software update for thousands of A320 family aircraft worldwide. According to industry information, around 6,000 A320 aircraft were affected. The measure caused cancellations and delays for various airlines globally, although many have already completed the updates and normalized their operations. Additionally, the authority specified that the activities “were carried out as scheduled, without major impact on national air operations.” The agency highlighted that, in coordination with the Regional and Airport Commands, as well as with air carriers, it will maintain continuous surveillance to ensure the correct execution of the technical measure, prioritizing operational safety. The Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) reported on Saturday that verification and technical supervision work for the flight control system update in Airbus A319, A320, and A321 family aircraft on national territory has been completed. In its statement, AFAC detailed that “the Mexican fleet subject to the update consisted of 93 Viva Aerobus aircraft and 90 Volaris aircraft, which successfully concluded the application of the technical task required by the manufacturer.” This measure was taken in accordance with Operators Alert A27N022-25 Rev.
