Five people died and 25 were injured in a traffic accident between a bus and a truck in the town of Caborca, Sonora, the state Civil Protection agency reported on Friday through its social networks. The emergency department explained that the fatal accident occurred at kilometer 118 of the Sonoyta-Caborca stretch, where Red Cross, Firefighters, Municipal Police, and Civil Protection personnel were deployed. Initially, the agency reported four fatalities, but hours later confirmed the death of one more person. Regarding the number of injured, authorities reported a balance of 25 injured people, nine of whom continue to receive medical attention and are 'out of danger.' One of the vehicles involved in the crash belongs to the bus transport company Tufesa, as the company itself confirmed in a statement. Tufesa detailed that its operator is hospitalized receiving medical care and acknowledged his 'effort to maintain control of the unit in a critical situation.' Similarly, the company stated it will remain 'respectful' during the process to investigate the causes of the accident and said it will 'fully cooperate with the competent authorities' during the official expert assessment. For now, the cause of the accident has not been disclosed. Governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, expressed in a post on his 'most sincere condolences to the families and loved ones' of the victims of the fatal crash.
