On Tuesday morning, explosions and a fire were reported at the maritime terminal of the Olmeca Refinery in Dos Bocas, prompting the mobilization of emergency services and a column of smoke visible for several kilometers. People identifying as workers at the location filmed the incident and shared it on social media. In contrast, the Infodemia Mx site assured that it is “false that a fire was registered inside the ‘Dos Bocas’ refinery” and cited the official Pemex communiqué. However, in posts, users claim the fire spread beyond the perimeter wall. Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) confirmed that the fire was extinguished and detailed that it was detected around 6:00 AM in the perimeter area of Plot 1 for hydrocarbon storage. “A fire detected at 6:00 AM was extinguished, located around the perimeter wall of Plot 1 for hydrocarbon storage at the Olmeca Refinery,” the company stated in a communiqué and assured that the facilities suffered no damage. The hydrocarbon storage facilities of the refinery are unaffected and operating normally. Preliminarily, Pemex indicated that the origin of the incident could be related to recent weather conditions. The event may have been caused by the accumulation of possible hydrocarbon residues from the torrential rains and flooding recorded in the area. The mayor of Paraíso, Alfonso Baca, informed in an interview with XEVA Noticias that the fire was being extinguished during the early hours. “The fire is currently in the process of being extinguished, with Pemex personnel on site working in coordination with Civil Protection, traffic, and other authorities,” he stated. Initial reports located the incident near the dock of the National Port Administration System (ASIPONA), activating emergency protocols with the participation of internal staff, local authorities, and federal agents. To date, no official report on material damage has been issued, while verifications continue as part of industrial safety and environmental protection protocols. Finally, authorities recommended that the population avoid approaching the area and stay informed through official channels.
