Heavy Traffic on Mexican Roads During Easter Holiday

During the 2026 Easter holiday period, Mexico is experiencing significant traffic increases on its main highways. Thousands of motorists are heading to tourist destinations, causing congestion. Authorities are urging caution and recommending vehicle checks before travel.

Heavy traffic continues in both directions during the Easter holiday period. Traffic towards Chamapa is also heavy due to the holiday. Traffic is recorded in both directions at the exit to the Poblado de Jorobas, due to the holiday period. Drive with caution. From the early hours of the day, thousands of motorists left major cities heading to tourist destinations, which has already caused high traffic volume and slow-moving sections on main roads and highways. In the morning, neighbors from the Xochimilco borough blocked both directions of the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway in protest over the water shortage. Drive with caution. Authorities recommend that drivers stay informed through official channels, respect traffic signs, and consider additional travel time due to possible traffic jams. They also urge checking the mechanical condition of vehicles before hitting the road. This monitoring will be updated as Capufe and federal authorities issue new reports on the state of traffic on the country's highways during the start of the 2026 Easter holiday period. According to the latest report issued by Capufe on its official X account, as of 4:58 PM on March 27, several toll booths are registering heavy traffic, with waiting times longer than usual on routes to tourist destinations. Among the points with the highest flow are the exits to Cuernavaca, Querétaro, and Puebla, where intense flow with occasional slow progress is reported. Drive with caution. In these areas, traffic volume is mainly due to travelers from the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico. These are the main and most congested routes this Friday afternoon, March 27: Mexico-Querétaro Highway, at kilometer 56, with traffic in both directions at the exit to Poblado de Jorobas. Authorities reported a reduction in lanes on this road due to an accident at kilometer 95. As part of the 2026 Easter security operation, authorities have deployed surveillance, road assistance, and security operations in coordination with federal and state agencies. Actions include patrols, medical attention, speed control, and support at strategic points to prevent accidents and streamline traffic. Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe) maintains constant monitoring on highways and toll booths, reporting on incidents, partial closures, and vehicle flow through its official channels. After more than four hours, the protesters left and traffic was restored. The stretch operates normally in both directions. Drive with caution. Users are informed that the protesters have withdrawn.

Infonavit Offices on the Brink of Collapse Due to Lack of Cleaners

Various offices of the Institute of the National Housing Fund for Workers (Infonavit) are on the verge of collapse due to a lack of cleaning staff. Unsanitary conditions have made it impossible for administrative workers to perform their duties correctly. The staff reduction began on March 16th, when a multi-year contract was unclearly awarded to the company PROAM Administración S. de R.L. de C.V., owned by Guillermo Solís. The company is being investigated for malpractices. “When the company changed, many people left; they told us they had worked with them before and that they didn't pay on time or in full, nor did they provide social benefits, so they preferred to look for other jobs. The current staff is insufficient for everything to be clean,” assured Mario, who works as an administrator in the Institute's central offices. Despite the complaints against PROAM, which are before the Secretariat of Anti-Corruption and Good Government, the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) and the Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare (STyPS), by order of Iyadalid Martínez Domínguez, Subdirector of Administration and Services Procurement of Infonavit, decided to grant the contract. Something smells fishy at Infonavit. Workers have already begun to express their dissatisfaction due to the lack of cleaning staff; garbage has started to accumulate in some areas, bathrooms are not cleaned daily, causing bad odors, and the offices are not being adequately cleaned. Cleaners report that they are also not being given the necessary supplies. “We do our best, but where there used to be 3 or 4 people, now there is only one; we also have to clean more areas and we are not given the materials we need, we have to share brooms, rags, and in some cases we have even had to mop with just water,” revealed Antonia, who works as a cleaner. The administrative workers of Infonavit have begun to organize to see the possibility of stopping work or working in shifts until the sanitation of the facilities is guaranteed.
