Renovation of Casa de los Tubos Wins Architectural Award

The House of Tubes, located in the Country La Escondida neighborhood in Guadalupe, Nuevo León, has been recognized for its unique architecture and the legend that surrounds it. Enrique Villarreal, leader of the Urban group, highlighted that the design of the 'House of Tubes' represents the fusion of the new and the old, although it originally presented mobility difficulties due to staircases interrupting the ramps.

In 2020, the renovation of the House of Tubes, led by Enrique Leal and Mario Delgado, received the award for the best architectural single-family residence in Mexico at the International Property Awards. This recognition highlights the quality of architectural works and real estate developers, being evaluated by a jury of 70 experts.

The history of the 'House of Tubes', rescued by the Spanish writer and architect Pedro Torrijos, reveals that the house was abandoned due to the economic crisis that affected Mexico in 1977 and the high real estate value of the area. The legend of a girl in a wheelchair and her father adds an iconic touch to the place, turning it into a point of interest for the people of Nuevo León. The construction began in the seventies with mysterious events during its building.

Hugo Schiaffino acquired the property in 2008 after years of legal proceedings. The renovation of the House of Tubes, carried out by Grupo Urban, led by Enrique Leal Villareal, maintained the iconic structure of concrete tubes but transformed the architecture into a horizontal design. The tube area became a terraced space with gardens and a pool for family events.

The history of the 'House of Tubes' is intertwined with tales of tragedies and unexplained phenomena, creating an atmosphere filled with mystery and terror for the inhabitants of the region. The legend of the girl in the wheelchair and her father has marked the identity of this emblematic building, which now resurfaces with a new image and functionality, keeping its story alive.
