In Villahermosa, Tabasco, some people have chosen to decorate their homes with Halloween themes that reflect the reality of violence in the region. This has generated controversy and concern among the inhabitants and local authorities.
A family decided to use the image of a body wrapped in a black bag and tape as decoration for a commercial establishment, simulating a person hanging by their feet and apparently "executed". This peculiar "decoration" caught the attention of passersby and motorists on the Carlos Pellicer Cámara ring road, generating emergency calls to the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection.
State agents arrived at the scene and, although it was not considered a crime, requested the responsible parties to remove the figure to avoid creating panic or confusion in the population. Violence in Tabasco has been increasing, with a marked rise in the homicide rate since the beginning of the government of morenista Javier May Rodríguez.
During the year 2024, up to the month of October, 711 homicide victims were recorded in the state, the majority committed with firearms. These alarming figures reflect the harsh reality of the violence that plagues the region, attributed to the dispute between two identified criminal groups.
Although Halloween is a foreign celebration, it has gained popularity in various Mexican communities. However, in Villahermosa, the choice of certain decorations has generated controversy and has highlighted the harsh situation of insecurity and violence that Tabasco faces.
