Sports commentator Christian Martinoli revealed in an interview with El Escorpión Dorado that his peculiar style has generated controversies throughout his career. Martinoli shared that once, his direct boss, José Ramón, was satisfied with a comment of his highlighting the competition. However, the owner of the company, Ricardo Salinas Pliego, called him at three in the morning to reprimand him and warned him not to make such statements, mentioning that he should avoid competing in that way.
"Let it be the last time, you bastard, I already told José Ramón that you can't compete against them like that. This is Mr. Salinas speaking," Salinas told Martinoli in the call, according to the commentator's account. This situation occurred before the 2006 World Cup in Germany, where Salinas Pliego warned him about his comments regarding Televisa, referring to them as a "dream team" and suggesting they were more appropriately called a "drink team."
Throughout his career, Martinoli has faced various controversies for his expressions during football broadcasts. One of them was when he was summoned by Conapred for calling an aggressive fan an "aborigen" who attacked Christian Chaco Giménez at the Estadio Morelos, thus showing that his unconventional comments are not always well received by all sectors.
