The Secretary of Foreign Relations, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, reported that the Mexican government is conducting a census to determine how many people of Mexican origin have been affected by the fires in California. During a morning conference, he mentioned that the complete census of those affected is not yet available, but assured that of the 27 fatalities recorded so far, no compatriots have been identified.
As part of the support efforts, assistance points have been established in shelters to help those affected. Regarding compatriots who have lost their jobs due to the fires, efforts are being made to develop a detailed census of those affected. De la Fuente admitted: "We are preparing the census of those who lost their jobs; this will take us a little longer."
Data collection is progressing, cross-referencing information with business owners such as restaurants and companies in the affected areas. De la Fuente pointed out the severity of job loss as one of the most severe impacts for Mexican migrants in the region, expressing concern about this aspect. He highlighted that the loss of employment will likely be one of the greatest challenges for compatriots in the area.
Lastly, the Secretary emphasized that an emergency program was implemented the previous week to offer support to those affected. Support began to be provided, including the management of temporary jobs for those in unemployed situations.
