Renowned journalist Alejandro Gallegos León was found dead in the municipality of Cárdenas, Tabasco, raising concerns over violence against the press.

The recognized columnist of Tabasco HOY and university professor, Alejandro Gallegos León, was found dead with signs of violence and multiple bullet wounds. Gallegos was known for his journalistic work focused on educational and political issues, as well as for managing the citizen reporting platform La Voz del Pueblo, Noticias Sin Censura. It was reported that the last communication with him was recorded at 14:25 hours the day before.

The international human rights organization Article 19 urged the National Commission for the Search for Missing Persons in Mexico and the Secretariat of the Interior to immediately activate actions using the Standardized Protocol for the Search for Missing Persons to locate the journalist alive. After his death was confirmed, Article 19 urged the Attorney General's Office of the Republic to take over the case and consider Gallegos's journalistic work as a motive for the crime.

The body of Alejandro Gallegos León was discovered in an agricultural area in the C-28 village of the municipality of Cárdenas, Tabasco, after his disappearance was reported to the authorities. The Attorney General's Office of Justice in Tabasco announced that they are conducting the appropriate investigations to clarify the facts. Additionally, Article 19 called on the Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists to provide protection to Gallegos's family and colleagues.

The disappearance and subsequent discovery of Alejandro Gallegos León's lifeless body has caused shock in Mexico, and various organizations have urged the Government to take strong measures to ensure the safety of media professionals.
