42nd Annual Multidisciplinary Meeting at INCan

The INCan hosts its 42nd Annual Multidisciplinary Meeting on February 14-15, focusing on oncology, patient care, and clinical research, emphasizing quality of life.


José Francisco Corona Cruz, President of the Medical Society of INCan, leads the inauguration of the 42nd multidisciplinary armed meeting taking place on February 14 and 15. This event includes five multidisciplinary axes covering topics such as oncology meetings, oncology nursing, medical oncology, hematology-oncology, palliative care, and mental health.

Dr. Erika Betzabel Ruiz García, Director of Teaching, along with Dr. Bernardo Cacho Díaz, Medical Director of the National Institute of Medicine, highlighted the importance of focusing not only on the disease but also on the quality of life of the patient. During the inauguration, the Dr. José Noriega Limón Award was presented, recognizing excellence in clinical research.

In this regard, Dr. Ruiz García emphasized: "Clinical research in Mexico is mostly conducted in public hospitals, and it is essential to recognize the efforts of those who work in this field, often with limited resources." The prize was awarded to Dr. Aguilar Frasco, who thanked his mentor, Dr. Jorge Luis Aguilar Frasco, for his outstanding work in oncological surgery.

Oscar Gerardo Arrieta Rodríguez, General Director of INCan, and Dr. Samuel Ponce de León Rosales, Coordinator of the University Program for Research on Epidemiological and Emerging Risks at UNAM, were also present at the event. The doctor emphasized that this annual multidisciplinary meeting reflects the institution's commitment to continuous medical education and excellence in oncological care.

The event not only offers a learning opportunity but also a chance for experience exchange to reinforce the joint commitment to improving patients' lives. Dr. Samuel Ponce de León, who stressed the importance of this award to promote research among physicians, highlighted the relevance of the event in strengthening education and research in cancer.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Nidia Zapata, Director of Medical Education at INCan, who underscored the institution's role in training future doctors and in oncological research. Zapata emphasized the importance of early diagnoses to improve patient survival and reduce treatment costs.

Dr. Arrieta officially opened the annual multidisciplinary meeting, inviting all participants to actively engage in the scheduled academic activities. During the event, crucial topics in oncology such as oncological emergencies, genomics in hematology, palliative care, and oncological rehabilitation are addressed. The meeting also highlights the importance of collaborative work among different disciplines to strengthen comprehensive patient care.
