Highway Closure Due to Gas Explosion on Mexico-Puebla

On the morning of Sunday, February 16, a fire and explosion of a gas tanker was reported on the Mexico-Puebla highway, at the height of Llano Grande, which led to the closure of the stretch located at kilometer 53 in both directions. After the accident, the resulting smoke column was visible kilometers away.

According to Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe), the closure remains for safety measures, following a collision between a trailer and several cars that left drivers injured and hospitalized. Elements of Civil Protection of the State of Mexico closed the highway, and the San Marcos toll booth also remains inactive in the direction to Puebla as a precaution.

As for alternative routes to travel through the affected area, if you are heading to Mexico City, traffic is being diverted to Río Frío. For more information on alternative routes, it is recommended to call 074. So far, the total number of injuries in the accident has not been confirmed.

Firefighters from Ixtapaluca and Chalco are working to contain the fire caused by the explosion of the gas tanker, while witnesses indicate that the crash began with the trailer impacting several vehicles, including the tanker that detonated after the accident. Therefore, drivers are advised to take precautions and seek alternate routes if they plan to travel through the area.
