The State Water Commission (CEA) will allocate nearly 150 million pesos to build a third water treatment plant in Arroyo Hondo, Corregidora, as part of the "El Batán, Water for All" project. Luis Alberto Vega Ricoy, executive member of the CEA, explained that this new plant will be smaller compared to the Sur and San Pedro Mártir plants, the main ones within the El Batán system.
The infrastructure will have a treatment capacity of 40 liters per second and will be aimed at purifying the rainwater or waste that reaches the El Batán dam. It is expected that the plant will be operational before the water supply project, scheduled for late 2025 or early 2026, to maintain the quality of water sent to the dam.
Vega Ricoy emphasized the importance of maintaining water cleanliness and taking care of the inflows that reach the dam. A state-of-the-art treatment plant is planned, similar to the existing ones in San Pedro Mártir and the Sur plant, to ensure water quality in El Batán.
Regarding the financing of the project, the CEA is working with the Finance Secretary on a public-private partnership proposal that will be presented to the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit. Federal approval is expected in February, and the project is to be submitted for approval in the Local Congress in March.
The "El Batán, Water for All" project is a priority for the state government. Therefore, the construction of the new CEA headquarters will be postponed until budget sufficiency is achieved. The goal is to have federal approval in February for its legislative presentation in March.
