The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) are collaborating in the program 'Live Healthy, Live Happy', which aims to promote disease prevention in children in public schools in Mexico. This project will involve the participation of 3,869 nurses from the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), who will visit all educational institutions across the country to attend to the minors.
Among the actions to be carried out starting March 12 are a weight and height census, the detection of visual deficiencies and oral problems in students, all with parental consent. All information collected will be recorded in an application designed by the IMSS to facilitate monitoring the health of minors.
738 brigades will be established, composed of 11 health specialists who will work on detecting and monitoring potential health problems in children. In case any conditions are identified, guidance will be offered to parents so that minors receive the appropriate care free of charge at specialized clinics.
In addition to medical check-ups, the sale of healthy foods in public schools will be implemented, and physical activity routines will be included in the curriculum. Mario Delgado, head of the SEP, mentioned that this initiative seeks to guarantee the right to health for all children and youth in the country, emphasizing that under the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum, the priority is to ensure this right.
