The Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Health, has implemented the Support Program for Families of Children with Cancer without social security. This initiative aims to provide financial support of 6,400 pesos bimonthly to 3,000 mothers, fathers, and/or guardians of children undergoing treatment at IMSS Bienestar or the National Institutes of Health. This backing also seeks to ensure the supply of necessary medications for the treatment of childhood cancer.
David Kershenobich, the Secretary of Health, mentioned during the morning conference 'The people's morning' that, thanks to the consolidated purchase of medications, the availability of supplies for the treatment of various types of cancer in children is ensured. He highlighted the progress in the care protocol for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, emphasizing that along with the proper supply of medications, the survival rate of pediatric patients can increase up to 90%.
The program will be partially funded with resources aligned to the Pension of Wellbeing for Persons with Disabilities, with an estimated annual cost of 57 million pesos. Eduardo Clark García Dobarganes, Undersecretary of Sector Integration and Coordination of Medical Care Services, explained that the financial support will be delivered directly through the Bank of Wellbeing Card.
Additionally, updates were provided on the progress of the consolidated purchase of medications and supplies for the Health sector 2025-2026. Supplies will begin to arrive this week, with a significant volume starting on March 15, ensuring the availability of medications in hospitals and state warehouses. A stock of medications will be established at the Ministry of Health to ensure that, in case of shortages in remote areas, the necessary drugs can be provided.
