This Wednesday, March 5, the relative humidity level in Guanajuato is 19%, with a tendency to decrease during the week. These severely dry conditions make vegetation highly flammable, increasing the danger of fires in natural and rural areas.
The drought in the state has already had concerning consequences. Since early February, Guanajuato has experienced extremely low levels of relative humidity, which, along with the absence of rain and moderate to strong winds, significantly increases the risk of wildfires in the region.
According to data from the automatic weather station of ACAUG, the relative humidity values have been alarmingly low. Recently, several simultaneous wildfires have been recorded in Guanajuato, with the most severe one occurring in Cerro del Palenque, where 200 hectares were consumed by fire.
Additionally, the climatic phenomenon of La Niña, which is affecting the region in 2025, has reduced rainfall in the center of the country, exacerbating the dryness of the environment and increasing the vulnerability of ecosystems.
In light of this situation, authorities are urging the population to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, as well as refraining from lighting campfires or conducting burns in risk areas. It is essential to report any fire outbreak to 911 for prompt action.
The outlook for the coming weeks is uncertain, but the risk of wildfires continues to rise. Prevention and citizen awareness will be key to avoiding further damage in the state. In previous dates, minimum levels of relative humidity have been recorded, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
