
In the first four months of Claudia Sheinbaum's government, 37,874 women were victims of serious crimes such as feminicide, homicide, kidnapping, extortion, or domestic violence, among others. According to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP), there are currently 315 women victims of one of these crimes each day, or 13 every hour. To these crimes, we must add others in which women are victims, such as theft in all its forms or sexual crimes, such as rape, harassment, and sexual abuse or human trafficking.
During the current government, there has been a decrease in the incidence of some crimes against women; however, others have recorded concerning increases. For example, simple and aggravated rape has shown a significant increase, with 6,583 cases between October 2024 and January 2025, which amounts to 54 cases a day or two per hour. This crime experienced an increase of 2.5 percent in January 2025 compared to the previous year.
During the current administration, crimes such as gender violence, corruption of minors, extortion, trafficking of minors, negligent homicide, and other crimes against society have recorded concerning increases. The corruption of minors has seen a 27.7 percent increase, rising from 512 to 654 cases in the compared periods.
However, decreases have been recorded in crimes such as feminicide (6.3%) and intentional homicide (6.8%). In the period from October 2024 to January 2025, feminicide decreased to 251 cases compared to 268 cases in the previous period. Regarding intentional homicide, 56 fewer cases were reported in the same timeframe.
Other crimes against women that have also shown a decrease in their incidence include intentional injuries (-1.5%), negligent injuries (-3.9%), kidnapping (-4.7%), and other crimes that infringe on liberty (-16.2%).
