The head of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) of Mexico, Mario Delgado Carrillo, confirmed the continuation of the country's participation in the PISA test. This is despite refuting false information claiming that a legal injunction presented by the civil association 'Education with Direction' compelled the SEP to conduct the evaluation in 2025 by order of the Judiciary.
"There is no existing judicial measure that obligates the application of this test," clarified Delgado Carrillo on his social media. He recalled that since May 2024, the then president Andrés Manuel López Obrador had confirmed Mexico's participation in the PISA 2025 test, supporting all educational evaluations.
The Unit for Normative Update, Legality, and Regulation of the SEP reported that the amparo trial was dismissed on November 4, 2024, demonstrating that there were no solid legal foundations for the civil association to claim the alleged refusal to apply the PISA Test in 2025.
Subsequently, Delgado Carrillo mentioned that last October a pilot test was conducted in schools in Hidalgo, State of Mexico, and Tlaxcala with the participation of 2,273 students. They are currently preparing for the main PISA test, which will be administered by the National Center for Assessment (Ceneval) between April and May in 321 schools across the country, with approximately 7,000 participating students.
In this regard, it was highlighted that the New Mexican School (NEM) proposes diagnostic evaluations of learning as guiding elements of educational policy. Professional teaching autonomy is presented as a tool to provide personalized attention to students and monitor their progress individually, unlike standardized tests like PISA, which have limitations in measuring the performance of the educational system.
