
The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) carried out a series of operations against illegal loggers in the country, aiming to stop illegal logging and the illicit transport of forest products. The actions took place on March 6 and 7, installing 36 checkpoints in 20 entities with critical forest areas. 59 members of the Secretary of National Defense, 106 from the National Guard, 182 from the Secretary of Citizen Security, and two from the Attorney General's Office participated in the security operation.
As part of these operations, 17 vehicles, 271 cubic meters of illegal wood, 90 kilos of charcoal, and various tools were seized. The Attorney for Environmental Protection, Mariana Boy, reaffirmed the commitment to protecting the environment, especially by combating illegal logging and protecting forests and jungles. In her statements, she emphasized the importance of preserving forests and all the benefits they provide, highlighting the negative environmental impacts of illegal logging.
In Michoacán, six checkpoints were established where two trailers, one large truck, and 75.6 m3 of pine wood were secured, among others. In Hidalgo, in Acaxochitlán, a pickup truck and 1.671 m3 of sawn wood were confiscated due to lack of legal documentation. In Campeche, two tractor-trailers and 32.6 m3 of cedar wood were retained due to lack of marking and legal documentation. In other entities such as Tlaxcala, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Durango, Oaxaca, and Querétaro, vehicle and forest material seizures were also carried out for failing to prove their legal origin, in addition to taking administrative actions against those responsible.
