IMSS Introduces AI for Family Medicine Consultations

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Nuevo León has implemented artificial intelligence as part of the strategy "Look Me in the Eyes" to improve care in Family Medicine consultations. A total of 27 Family Medicine Units (UMF) in the entity are licensed for doctors to use this technology.

The system, developed by the Directorate of Innovation and Technological Development (DIDT), incorporates voice recognition software on the computers in the offices. This software translates the dialogue between the doctor and the patient into text with medical terminology and integrates the information into the Electronic Clinical Record.

Thanks to this tool, the time that doctors spend writing the medical note is reduced by 40%, allowing them to focus more on the observation and assessment of the patient. The "Look Me in the Eyes" program began as a pilot in 2022 and is part of the technological modernization promoted nationally by Social Security.

IMSS in Nuevo León aims to achieve the best levels of medical care through the use of information and communication technologies. In the words of the Institute: "IMSS in the entity is firmly committed to achieving the best levels of medical care through the use of information and communication technologies."
